Saudi TV Star Appeals to all Muslims: "Take Responsibility!"
She is intelligent, courageous, from Saudi Arabia, and is a big TV star in the Arab world.
Nadine Al-Bedair has been a long-time reporter of GLOBALO partner World Security Network in Saudi Arabia. See the video from WSN below.
The free thinking Saudi TV star stopped her regular broadcast to give a three minute long speech, urging her fellow Muslims to feel shame about the terrorist attacks perpetrated by their people.
Nadine Al-Bedair is a newscaster for a Saudi Arabian news channel.
She has been promoting women’s rights for many years.
Nadine wants Muslims to feel ashamed and to admit that terrorists aren’t a “rarity” among Arabs.
She believes Muslims should take responsibility for their community and the actions of the terrorists among them.
Al-Bedair has previously written that Muslims should stop blaming the West for their issues.
- She says, “Whenever terrorism massacres peaceful civilians, the smart alecs and the hypocrites vie with one another in saying that these people do not represent Islam or the Muslims. Perhaps one of them could tell us who does represent Islam and the Muslims.”
Her logic is that, if the terrorists don’t represent Islam, then who does? Ordinary Muslims should take responsibility and feel shame for the actions of the terrorists who grew out of their homelands, who were born of their people. Then they, rather than the extremists, could be the proper representation of Islam, as they should be.
- She continues, “It is we who blow ourselves up. It is we who blow up others. Why do we shed our own conscience? Don’t these perpetrators emerge from our environment? Don’t their families belong to our society? After the abominable Brussels bombings, it’s time for us to feel shame and to stop acting as if the terrorists are a rarity. We must admit that they are present everywhere, that their nationality is Arab and that they adhere to the religion of Islam. We must acknowledge that we are the ones who gave birth to them.”
- Nadine Al-Bedair has called out her fellow Muslims before, in a February article in a daily newspaper in Kuwait. In this article, she tells her fellow Muslims to stop blaming the West for their issues. She asks the readers to imagine if it were Christians who were blowing themselves up. Her point is to make people question what their reactions would be if Christians tried to force their religion on Muslims. She thinks Muslims should be conscious of the way they react toward the West and be more understanding of their perspective, rather than condemning and blaming them. She urges Muslims to consider reform to address the terrorists, who are their problem which shouldn’t be blamed on the West.
