IF YOU HAVE A HAMMER, EVERY PROBLEM LOOKS LIKE A NAIL

Look for all different options and tools in the broader toolbox of politics.

Be creative!

Follow the wisdom of Albert Einstein who said: “Imagination is more important than knowledge” and “You cannot solve the problems on the same level of thinking where you have created them”.

Do not use the military hammer only to solve conflicts, but select carefully your different tools.

Always in a clever double strategy of power and diplomacy, including the hard and soft factors of peace making.

For each conflict we need a new thinking “Word 3.0”: a detailed 500-pages-plan, including all local and political considerations, economic development, reconciliation, or a promotion of the important elites.

Just to use the military to “win” and aim for elections later and not consider all factors involved, is not enough any more. This narrow-minded approach will only produce one “lost victory” after another.

You have to plan the full game, timing, control, costs involved, as well as the end and exit and plan B, if something goes wrong.

All this was missing during the U.S. invasions in Iraq or Afghanistan and the French-British stimulated support for the rebels in Libya. Theses three plans were military-centric and vague short-term crisis management- and failed.

They were only able to destroy the old, but not to build a stable new and better long-term order for the people.

Therefore no military action any more without a detailed clever 500-pages-plan including all considerations.
