Admiral Jacques Lanxade
Born in September 1934, Admiral LANXADE, joined the Naval Academy in 1952.
During his career as surface officer he assumed command of three frigates.
Promoted Rear Admiral in 1985, he was in charge of the operations in the Mediterranean sea before to take command of the French fleet in the Indian Ocean, from 1986 to 1988, during the IRAN-IRAK war.
In 1988 he became head of the Defense Minister’s military cabinet then, in 1989, he joined the Elysees as strategic adviser of the French President until 1991.
Promoted admiral, he was appointed as Joint chief of Staff in may 1991.
He retired from the armed forces in September 1995 to become ambassador in TUNISIA until the end of 1999.
Today, he chairs the Naval Academy and the Mediterranean Foundation for the Strategic Research.
